Sorry this page looks weird. It was automatically migrated from my old blog, which had a different layout and different CSS.

Note To Self: How To Build Gems Now

This follows up my note a few months ago about how to build gems. The state of the art has advanced: now one uses Bundler.

When creating a gem, use Bundler to get going:

$ bundle gem my_gem

If you already have a gem, use Bundler to create a Gemfile for the gem:

$ bundle init # Not to be confused with "bundle, innit!"

(See here if you’re not British.)

The Gemfile should just say gemspec.

Bundler also helpfully gives you rake build, rake install and rake release.
